THE CENTENARY OF THE BIRTH OF PAINTER MILORAD BATA MIHAILOVIĆ – REMEMBERING THE REBEL ACADEMICIAN
The exhibition commemorating the centenary of Milorad Bata Mihailović’s birth at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA Gallery) was conceived as a tripartite thematic and problemaric presentation of the Serbian artist’s and and academicians’s oeuvre, and is the third in a series of exhibitions dedicated to him in this space. With the original intention of commemorating the importance of Mihailović’s painting, we approached the organisation of the exhibition with mnemotechnical premeditation. Unlike the preceding, mainly retrospective exhibitions , on this occasion the selected and thematically grouped works were organised based on the principle of creating a different outlook on the ranges and qualities of Mihailović’s painting . The curatorial concept of the exhibition and its spatial arrangement do not cover Mihailović’s entire oeuvre but focus on thematically selected works and creating a balance between representative paintings and those being displayed for the first time. Through a selection of paintings from public and private collections, the exhibition offers a diachronic view with an in medias res starting point.
