NINA IVANOVIĆ – SETUP

At the exhibition „Setup“ in RIMA Gallery Nina Ivanović will be represented with her works arising from her long practice of photographing the process of exhibition displays. Starting from her own archives of photographs which record various exhibition setups, the artist informed drawings made from wire, the medium she has been using for more than a decade.

In her previous practice Nina has often used the same technique for figurative works of diverse subjects, such as the scene of young ones in late-night entertainment, in the series „Get Lucky“ (2013) or neon „Window Cleaners“ exhibited on the glass façade of the Belgrade Cultural Centre (2019). On the other hand, Nina has already treated a similar topic in her project „Shared meanings“ in Ljubljana (2019), in the medium of photography then, when she recorded the process of joint creative activity during the preparations of a group show dedicated to collective work.

Nina’s works made from wire are produced after the photographs she has been shooting zealously and with dedication, either on journeys, or in everyday situations and encounters. This exhibition has been composed out of the conglomerate of such photo-documentation. Although Nina has been active in the field of art photography, this specific and voluminous opus we could not call a series since the photographs were made spontaneously, during more than ten years, at different locations and in diverse situations. In that period, she shot not only her own exhibition setups but also those of her artist-colleagues, and particularly those realised in the Art Space of U10, of which she is one of the co-founders. This consistent, but less publicly known Nina’s practice has grown into a serious archive and visual documentation revealing a segment of everyday functioning of the contemporary art scene.
